 In the monograph the mechanisms of electromechanical wear of materials during friction and influence of diverse factors on this process are considered. The complex of technological processes and techniques of getting of self-lubricating composite powder-like and stratified (cellular) materials for electric current collection are described. The information about compositions and properties of the electric current collection materials (ECCM) used on railways around the world is adduced. The machine of friction, imitating real conditions of ECCM's exploiting on railways is described. The results of STC's research of developed materials and some patterns of the insertions for current collectors used on Ukrainian railways are adduced.

It is shown, that operating properties of ECCM (ECCM OP) depend on their chemical composition and phase composition substantially.

 Besides that, ECCM OP substantially depend on following factors:

  • structure of the isolated phases,
  • technology of their making
  • their dimensions.

These factors have an influence on powder-like and stratified aggregates (composite materials, COMs) both.

Developed stratified, cellular and powder-like COMs on the basis of copper and natural graphite have a number of advantages on comparison with electrographite and imported COMs used on Ukrainian railways.

Advantages are as follows: higher parameters of electro conductivity, heat conductivity and durability, lower contact resistance.

The given advantages secure: reliability of electric current collection devices (ECCD), their effectiveness, maximal wear resistance, electro conductivity and heat conductivity, minimal wear of friction pair contact cable - current collection joint bar .

The given advantages also allow to handle ECCD's properties in wide limits. The purpose of handling is to optimize work of current collection mechanism in different modes of current collection.

The book is intended for the specialists who exploit electrical engineering devices of railway transport, scientists who elaborate and explore composite materials. The book can be useful to the students of technical universities (in particular transportation ones).
